What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. During a dental bonding appointment, Dr. Mahler bonds tooth-coloured composite resin to your teeth to match the surrounding teeth.
After applying the dental bonding resin to your smile, we will sculpt it before hardening it into the finished restoration. Dental bonding is often completed in only one dental appointment.
Dental bonding is most often used to repair discoloured or chipped teeth, but it is also often used to close gaps between teeth, make teeth appear longer, or change their shape or colour, making them look more symmetrical.
The Bonding Procedure
Dental bonding generally required only one visit to your dentist's office and can generally be completed in half an hour to one hour per tooth.
To prepare your teeth for the bonding procedure, your dentist will apply a solution to the surface of your teeth to etch them and alter their ability to hold the bonding in place. A bonding resin will be chosen to match the colour of your smile before it is applied.
The composite resin is then moulded into shape and hardened in place with a high-intensity curing light.
Why Dental Bonding?
If you have a minor cosmetic dental issue, such as a cracked, discoloured, or gapped tooth, dental bonding may help address it.
This procedure can give your teeth a natural appearance, especially if the tooth that required treatment will be visible when you smile normally.
The composite resin used during dental bonding will also help to strengthen your teeth, so you can enjoy your meals without having to worry about applying too much pressure to your tooth and having it break or crack.
